What is the Identity Masquerade™?
The Identity Masquerade is "an exclusive online masquerade made up of consumers and companies working together to prevent identity theft." MasqMe brings both consumers and merchants to the masquerade with one objective, to give control back to the consumer to prevent identity theft! We have to work together in this fight. Are you saying that we never have to give-out our Social Security Numbers to businesses?
Absolutely and unequivically not. All we're saying is that it just depends on who you're dealing with. If you're dealing with a salesperson of a car dealership, furniture store or jewelry store, why should they see your Social Security Number? They're not lending you the money. More importantly, 90% of the time they've not even been background checked. So, again, why should they get to see your SSN?

If you are dealing directly with a higher-level employee of the lender or finance company that lent you the money then it makes sense for them to know it since, by law they will need it to report your payment history to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion and the IRS. I just depends on who you're working with.

Why did you create MasqMe?
We don't like giving out our most important identifier to a regular salesperson, or lower-level employee that by law has no legal requirement or need, in being privy to it. Nothing personal, just business. This employee is merely selling me a product that his or her employer owns. These lower-level employees do not report directly to the credit bureaus, or the IRS. Neither do any of his management team or co-workers for that matter. Exposing our social security numbers unnecessarily poses a huge security risk. MasqMe's system is designed for this very purpose; to generate a disguise so the employee can check my credit "history" to see if I'm a worthy credit risk. MasqMe credit reports accomplish this.

How do I share my Social Security Number with a lender if I'm approved for a loan?
If the actual lender that is financing your loan is a member of MasqMe, then you would share your social security number securely through your control panel as MasqMe is a secure social utility. If the lender is not a member of MasqMe, then you should contact a higher-level employee i.e., an Accountant or CPA or designee that they provide, and give them your Social Security Number over the phone. Never email it or send it in writing.
